Home Inspection Training
A standard home inspection consists of a visual inspection of a home's construction and major mechanical systems as they exist on the day of the inspection. Many states are now requiring home inspectors to be licensed which generally means passing an examination. This 45 hour course meets the pre-licensing requirements for taking the examination for the State of South Carolina. BPI Building Analyst Training
Coastal Training Consultants & Inspectors™, a BPI Affiliate, offers this 5-day course that leads to BPI Building Analyst certification. The class will cover basic building science concepts and combustion safety material. Through a combination of classroom and field instruction, you will learn the “house-as-a-system” approach to energy auditing and home performance contracting. You will learn to diagnose and correct problems associated with health, safety, comfort, energy efficiency and durability, without compromising other systems in the home.
Course fees include lunch, study manuals, three days in the classroom, field training, the online exam taken in class and scheduled time for the proctored field exam. The written exam is a two hour, online test containing 100 questions (50 questions if you are a HERS rater).
You must pass the exam with a minimum score of 70% on the overall exam, and 80% on the CAZ and CO modules to obtain BPI certification. Registration Information.

BPI Envelope Professional Training
Coastal Training Consultants & Inspectors™, a BPI Affiliate, offers this 4-day course that leads to BPI Envelope Professional certification. Building Analyst training is highly recommended before taking this course. Some BA topics will be reviewed but this is not a BA Prep course. Training will include health and safety, heat transfer, moisture issues, thermal and pressure boundaries, shell inspection and air sealing, mechanical ventilation requirements, pressure diagnostics, duct diagnostics and a review of combustion safety.
Course fees include lunch, study manuals, two days in the classroom, field training, the online exam taken in class and scheduled time for the proctored field exam. This five day intensive course leads to dual BPI Building Analyst and Envelope Professional certification. BPI Building Analyst Training for HERS Raters
This three-day training, open only to HERS Raters, focuses on combustion safety and concludes with the standard BPI Building Analyst written and field testing. Some building science topics will be discussed, but this is not an in-depth buiding science review. To achieve the Building Analyst Professional designation, a candidate must receive a passing scoure on both the written and field exams. HERS Raters may take the optional 50 question written exam in lieu of the 100 question written exam. Building Code Interpretations
Residential contractors, home inspectors, and individuals interested in contracting their own homes will become familiar with the "International Residential Code for One-and- Two-family Dwellings." This 9-hour course has also been approved by the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI) and the South Carolina Buiding Code Council for continuing education credits.
