| Energy Star News Homes Program |
The ENERGY STAR New Homes Program uses both current building science theory and practical experience to look at building design, construction techniques, materials, and HVAC equipment. Any home three stories or less can earn the ENERGY STAR label if it has been verified to meet EPA's guidelines for energy efficiency. This includes site-constructed homes, attached or detached homes, single or low-rise multi-family residential buildings, manufactured homes, systems-built (e.g., SIP or modular) and log homes, existing homes, or retrofitted homes.
ENERGY STAR qualified homes achieve energy savings through established, reliable building technologies. Builders work with Home Energy Raters to select from a number of features when planning and building homes. Verification services include:
- A one time pre-construction design review
- Home Energy Rating
- Thermal Bypass Inspection
- Blower Door Test for Air Infiltration Rate
- Duct Blaster Test for Duct Air Leakage
- Energy Star Registration and Compliance Sticker
Our fees start at $750.00. Travel outside our service area may incur an additional fee. We require 50% of the fee at the completion of the Thermal Bypass Inspection and the remainder upon completion of the diagnostic testing. In the event that an item must be corrected before qualification where only a visual inspedtion is required and a subsequent visit to the site could not be avoided, an additional fee of $150 will be charged. In the event of a failure of a Blower Door or Duct Blaster diagnostic test, or both, the home must be retested. The retest will incure a charge of $350 for homes with one HVAC system. Add $100 per each additional system.
